Dr. Carol Boliek

Dr. Boliek is a professor emerita in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine and the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute at the University of Alberta. She completed her PhD in Psychology with an emphasis in Developmental Neuropsychology from the University of Northern Colorado followed by post-doctoral work at the University of Southern Illinois and University of Arizona. Dr. Boliek became a research scientist at the University of Arizona focusing on speech physiology in typically developing infants and young children as well as children with cerebral palsy. Dr. Boliek joined the staff at the University of Alberta in 2002. Her research program involved both basic speech physiology studies across the lifespan and applied studies involving treatment–dependent neuroplasticity with children who have motor speech disorders and cerebral palsy.
Dr. Boliek also serves as an associate chair of the four human research ethics boards serving the University of Alberta. She has been involved in research ethical review and policy development at the University of Alberta for nearly 20 years. She continues to take an active role in helping to create ethical review processes and policies that reflect societal and technological change.
