Dr. Edwin W. D. Laryea
Dr. Edwin W. D. Laryea is an anti-racist researcher, educator, and community leader with a PhD in Education, specializing in successfully educating African students with refugee backgrounds in Canadian schools. He has dedicated his career to promoting social justice, equal representation, and empowering marginalized communities, particularly African Canadian youth. Dr. Laryea has led numerous initiatives, including the federally sponsored Initiative for Capacity Building for African Canadians, and has served in various leadership roles across community organizations, including the K-W United Way, Mayor’s Advisory, and the Waterloo Museum Board of Governors. He is a Community Representative on the Panel on Research and the University of Waterloo HREB. A long-time resident of Waterloo, he is also an active participant in municipal and federal elections and serves on several advisory boards.
