Dr. Nakia Lee-Foon
Dr. Lee-Foon is the inaugural Health Equity Lead at the Institute for Better Health, Trillium Health Partners. She received her PhD in Social and Behavioural Health Sciences from Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH) at the University of Toronto. Her award-winning doctoral research explored the state of sexual health literacy among young Black gay and other men who have sex with men in Toronto. Dr. Lee-Foon completed a health equity postdoctoral fellowship at DLSPH. She is the Chair of Planned Parenthood Toronto’s board of directors and sits on the College of Electors for the University of Toronto. Dr. Lee-Foon also sat on the board of directors for the Black Health Alliance where she was the Vice President from 2016-2018. She has co-designed training programs for science and engineering teaching assistants and co-developed curriculum about public health and research methodologies for academic and non-academic audiences. Her research portfolio includes breast cancer screening awareness projects made for and by Black women and examining the facilitators and barriers to breast, cervical and colon cancer screening amongst equity deserving groups.
